A High School Student speaks out against gun control, and she’s SO full of common sense.
We all know gun control is a hot topic. People have opinions either for or against it. When a high school junior in Cincinnati, OH was asked to write about both sides of the debate, she found herself standing alone with her opinion. This story came to us in an interesting way.
Gearfire maintains a professional relationship with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), and we recently helped them to conduct a survey to be taken by gun owners all over the United States. The purpose of the survey is to help the firearms and ammunition industry better understand consumers and improve products and services for gun owners. If you’d like to take the survey yourself, just click here. You might even win a $500 Visa gift card!
We sent an email out that contained a link to the survey, and the NSSF says there has been a great response. Then one day, someone replied to our email. At the request of the family, we are keeping names anonymous. The response to our email explained one girl’s high school assignment to write about both sides of the gun control debate.
After more conversations with the family, we found out that this brave girl spoke out for less gun control; an opinion not shared by her classmates. During an open forum, she read her paper out loud, and the class discussed afterward. This is when she learned she was standing alone in favor of less gun control.
The student’s paper is well-written, and presents a clear case supporting the 2nd Amendment. She states:
“Gun control is a very popular yet delicate topic of conversation. Gun control lobbyists and activists claim that firearms only cause pain and destruction, but they are wrong. In this country, firearms are not only used for sport and competition, but also for self-defense as well.”
Right away, she addresses the negative view some people have towards guns, and perfectly explains why most people use their guns. You can’t argue with that logic.
“The right of all Americans to bear arms is a right the Founding Fathers held to equal importance as the Constitution itself. Gun control laws directly violate this right and therefore should not even be under consideration.”
Wow. That’s a bold statement. Nonetheless, she makes a good point. The Constitution was put in place to protect the citizens of this great country.
But we need to remove guns from the hands of criminals, right? If guns aren’t so easily accessible, there would be less violent crime committed. Her response to this argument is perfect.
“We need to educate young people about responsibly handling firearms and educate them to respect life and the lives of others. There are bad people, not bad guns.”
TRUTH BOMB! This statement speaks volumes. Bad people will always find guns. That cannot be prevented. But, with better firearms education, we can reduce the number of bad people altogether, and allow the good people to protect themselves.
Of course there is much more (truth) included in this student’s paper. We just wanted to share a few pieces. One girl speaks up for the rights of responsibly armed citizens, and we want to celebrate that.
On a side note, we found out this young lady likes to target shoot and hunt along with the rest of her family. Her father says she is a good shot with her trusty Browning Buckmark .22LR. In fact, she recently outshot her brother AND father.
Way to go, and keep on shooting! Gearfire salutes you.
