Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website (YOURS). This is done by following criteria to ensure the site appears high on search engine results. So what makes for great SEO? The truth is, that answer is constantly changing. This is one BIG reason why Gearfire implemented our own team of IT professionals.
Last month, Gearfire added a boost to every dealer website’s SEO!
To improve search engine rankings for all 1,400+ Gearfire dealer websites, we had to start with our own. Gearfire.com exists to showcase the MASSIVE stream of inventory available from our partnering distributors. When consumers find products they intend to buy, they are referred to local Gearfire dealer websites to complete the sale.
Why is this important? Because every Gearfire dealer website is essentially a clone of our own website. When SEO is improved on our website, our dealers receive the exact same benefits!
On 3/9/17, the product detail pages on Gearfire-provided websites changed. Our team of IT professionals implemented what is called “Product Schema Markup”. While you can’t see the changes that were made, search engines can.
According to Google, you should “add markup to your product pages so Google can provide detailed product information in rich Search results. Using markup to enable rich product results lets you attract potential customers when they search for items to buy, or for images that include products you sell.”
Product Schema Markup tells search engines that your products are “real”.
When we made these changes to boost SEO for all Gearfire websites, a simple and effective thing happened. For the THOUSANDS of products available to purchase, we told search engines that each one is a real item for sale. Search engines now recognize things like UPC numbers, product descriptions and images more easily, which improves rankings on search results.
As Bing, Google, and Yahoo “crawl” Gearfire websites to index the updated product pages, we expect to see lift in search result rankings. As a matter of fact, we have ALREADY seen some lift, and expect it to continually improve.
The end result will be an increase in the number of visitors to all Gearfire dealer websites from search engines. The only way Gearfire succeeds is if our dealers do as well. Gearfire remains committed to providing the absolute best tools and support to our dealers. That will never change.
