Michael Wilmet joins the Gearfire Team as President!

Michael Wilmet recently joined Gearfire in the role of President. As our business continues to grow, Michael’s previous work experience and dynamic skill set are welcome additions.

While responsible for a number of duties, Michael’s primary focus will be on business development. This will be done by strengthening Gearfire’s manufacturer, distributor and dealer relationships, as well as broadening the Gearfire brand.

Education and Experience

After serving tours with the US Army on the Korean DMZ and in Germany, Michael achieved degrees in Business Finance and Marketing from DePaul University. He then started his business career with Montgomery Ward as the Director of Credit Marketing. He held the position for 15 years. Afterward, Michael moved to ITT Financial Services as the Executive VP of Marketing, where he managed a $23 million marketing budget.


In 1987, he founded and was CEO of FMP Direct, Inc, a full-service direct marketing agency. They specialized in consumer marketing, creative services, direct mail production, database development and enhancement, strategic planning and tactical marketing, and brand building to numerous Fortune 100 & 500 companies. In 1993 he founded and was CEO of International Sportsman’s Marketing Network. They were the first single-source marketing agency dedicated exclusively to the hunting, fishing and outdoor sporting industries. ISMN has helped outdoor manufacturers, retailers, outfitters, lodges and organizations achieve marketing success. Strategies included membership acquisition, print and broadcast advertising, video and television production, database management, website development, loyalty programs and fundraising.

Professional Associations and Achievements

Michael has served on several Boards of Directors including Safari Club International. There, he served for nine years, and held the positions of Vice President and Corporate Treasurer. During his tenure, he chaired numerous committees including multiple annual conventions. Michael was acknowledged by Target Marketing Magazine as one of the “Top 200 Best, Brightest and Most Powerful Marketers in the Country” in numerous years.


Along with his wife Rachel, Michael has interests in wine and antique collecting, Arabian horses and international travel. The happy couple return to Italy frequently to enjoy the country of Rachel’s birth. Michael is also an avid hunter and has had the opportunity to hunt on six continents, spanning more than thirty countries. He and his wife now reside in Scottsdale, AZ after too many cold and snowy years in Chicago.
